Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan: Complete Color Review

Published: Dec 30, 2025 · Modified: Mar 25, 2026 by Meg · This post may contain affiliate links ·

Need the perfect warm neutral paint color for your home? Let’s look into Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan and see if it might be the right fit for your home!

Warm neutrals are having a real comeback right now. I notice more and more homeowners choosing tans, beiges, and soft khaki tones instead of cool grays. There is something comforting about these shades. They feel familiar, relaxed, and very easy to live with.

Creamy tans are a great choice for several rooms in the home, and they pair well with many decor styles, other paint colors, and finishes. They're a really versatile choice, and Canvas tan is one of them.

If you remember the builder beige trend from years ago, this is very different. This color feels softer, more modern, and much more balanced.

So let's review the details of Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan to see if it's a good choice for your home!

Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan Paint Color Guide

Canvas Tan is a warm, khaki-tinted white, perfect for living rooms and dens. It's a warm off white with just enough depth to keep walls from looking flat.

    Color Family

Canvas Tan is in the white family.

    Light Reflectance Value

    64

Light Reflectance Value measures how much light a paint color reflects. The scale runs from 0 to 100. Zero is pure black. One hundred is pure white.

With an LRV of 64, Canvas Tan is a light, creamy color. It reflects a good amount of light, which helps brighten a room. At the same time, it has enough pigment to still have a bit of personality.

    RGB Colors

    R: 220 G: 209 B: 191

RGB simply shows the mix of red, green, and blue that creates the color. Each number ranges from 0 to 255.

The higher red and green values give Canvas Tan its creamy warmth. That is why it feels gentle and inviting rather than crisp or stark.

    Undertones

Canvas Tan has creamy khaki undertones. Some tans and beiges have strong undertones (green, pink, etc.), but Canvas Tan does not.

In south-facing rooms with lots of natural light, Canvas Tan will appear light and bright, and a bit warmer without being overly warm or yellow.

In north-facing rooms that lack natural light, Canvas Tan will lean less warm / more neutral.

If you are searching for a warm neutral that feels light, cozy, and timeless, Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan is definitely worth testing. Try using a swatch in your space.

    FAQs

Here are some common frequently asked questions about Canvas Tan.

What is the undertone of SW Canvas Tan?

Canvas Tan has soft, creamy khaki undertones. It feels warm and welcoming, but it does not tip into obvious yellow like some tan shades can.

Does SW Canvas Tan look yellow?

Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan is a warm, khaki tinted off white. It has warmth, but it does not usually read yellow unless the room has very strong golden light.

I find this balance makes it very easy to use in different rooms. The undertones stay gentle, which is why I always suggest you swatch it on your own walls to see how the warmth shows up in your lighting.

What's the difference: SW Canvas Tan vs Softer Tan?

Softer Tan (LRV 60) is a bit darker and more saturated; Canvas Tan (LRV 64) is lighter and softer / more muted.

Both are warm neutral paint colors, but Canvas Tan has more yellow in it and Softer Tan has more orange. Softer Tan also features a subtle green undertone that Canvas Tan does not have.

What is a lighter version of SW Canvas Tan?

If you love the look of Canvas Tan but want something a bit lighter, try Neutral Ground. It's just one step lighter than Canvas Tan on the same paint strip.

The two are similar, but Neutral Ground is a tad lighter / brighter and creamier.

I suggest testing both colors together because seeing them in your own lighting makes the choice much easier.

Does SW Canvas Tan look pink?

While there are many beiges and tans out there with a pink undertone, Canvas Tan is not one of them. Canvas Tan will not lean pink.

Are beige or tan walls outdated?

Beige and tan walls are definitely not outdated. In fact, they are becoming popular again as more people want homes that feel warm and relaxed.

Modern tans like Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan feel softer and more refined than older beige trends.
