Want to paint your home a warm and cozy neutral? Let’s talk about mushroom paint colors, their undertones, coordinating colors, and the best mushroom paint colors!
Color trends come and go, and what is trending right now is really warm, cozy colors.
While deep, colorful walls are having a moment, there are always going to be trending neutrals to please the masses.
One of the trendiest neutral paint colors right now is shades of mushroom.
Let’s talk about what makes a mushroom paint color, how to decorate with them, and my favorite mushroom paint colors!
What is mushroom color?
Mushroom is the color that typically refers to an earthy, neutral shade – like the color of an actual mushroom found in nature.
These can range from shades of brown, beige, taupe, or gray. Their undertones might be lavendar, green, or pink.
Shades of mushroom are popular in home decor because they feel warm, cozy, and natural.
Mushroom makes a great wall color, but is also great for carpeting, upholstery, and decor.
Mushroom Paint Colors vs. Greige, Taupe, and Beige
Mushroom is an all-encompassing color that can fall somewhere between griege, taupe, and beige.
Typically, mushroom is darker than greige, pinker than beige, and less pink than taupe. It’s really a bit of a greige-taupe hybrid!

Mushroom Paint Colors for Different Exposures
Because mushroom is such a chameleon color, it is significantly effected by lighting. For this reason, the direction that your room faces can significantly impact how mushroom paint looks.
Mushroom in South-Facing Rooms
South facing rooms typically get very bright, warm to yellow toned the light. Because of this, mushroom paint colors are going to look warmer and more beige in south facing rooms.
Mushroom in North-Facing Rooms
On the other hand, north facing rooms typically get less light in the light that they get is more cool toned. This could make mushroom paint colors look grayer, or even purple.
Mushroom in East & West-Facing Rooms
East and west facing rooms fall somewhere between north and south facing rooms and the light changes throughout the day. This means that your room could feel very different in the morning compared to the evening.
It’s very important to swatch colors on your wall to make sure they look good – day and night – in your actual space before committing.

Colors That Complement Mushroom
Once you choose a mushroom color as your wall or primary room color, you will need to select a palette of accent colors to pair with it.
I suggest pairing mushroom wall colors with creams, warm whites, dark grays with green or blue undertones, dark shades of gray, and navy blue paint colors.
