Sherwin Williams Snowbound vs Extra White

Looking for the perfect white paint color for your home? Let’s compare Snowbound vs Extra White to see if one might be perfect for your space!

White is a popular paint color for good reason! It goes with many decor styles and finishes while providing a clean, neutral background.

White can lean warm or cool, and both are good options depending on what vibe you’re going for in a space.

A white with taupe or pink undertones can read a lot differently on the walls than a white with blue or gray undertones.

Natural light also plays a big part, so it’s important to know how white paint colors may read differently in various rooms of the same home!

Today I want to compare two super popular shades of white paint – Snowbound and Extra White.

Let’s talk about the difference between these two popular shades.

What is similar about Snowbound vs Extra White?

Snowbound and Extra White are both white paint colors, nearing the “off-white” category but still within the “true white” category.

Both are popular white paint colors, but there are significant differences in color depth and undertone shades.

What is different about Snowbound vs Extra White?

Extra White is lighter than Snowbound, with an LRV of 86 versus 83.

Extra White is a slightly cool white, with light blue and gray undertones, whereas Snowbound is a warm white, with creamy, pink, or beige undertones.

When the two are compared side by side, Extra White will look cleaner and whiter, and Snowbound will look creamier and softer.

Light Reflectance Value

Light Reflective Value is the measurement of how much light a color bounces around.

This is on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white.

Snowbound is darker than Extra White, with an LRV of 83 versus 86. This means Extra White will reflect more light back into a room than Snowbound will.

Due to these differences, Extra White will look brighter and crisper than Snowbound.

Undertones

Snowbound is a soft, warm white with creamy, pink, and beige undertones. It can lean a bit taupe in certain lighting.

Extra White is a more neutral, crisp white. It leans a bit cooler, with light blue and gray undertones.

In south-facing rooms with lots of natural light, Snowbound will look even warmer, and Extra White will feel pretty neutral.

In north-facing rooms without much natural light, Snowbound will look a bit darker and less warm, and Extra White will feel very cool, with those blue and gray undertones coming out.

It’s very important to swatch colors on your wall to be sure they look good – day and night – in your actual space before committing.
