Looking for the perfect taupe paint color for your home? Let’s talk about Sherwin Williams Studio Taupe and whether it might be right for your space.
Taupes are such a good choice when you want a room to feel soft, calm, and inviting, without going too beige or too cool gray. I love a taupe that feels warm and cozy, yet still clean enough to work as a main wall color.
Studio Taupe sits right in that nice middle zone. It has enough depth to bring warmth and character to your walls, but it does not feel too dark or heavy.
A warm taupe like this can work with so many decorating styles. It feels easy with wood tones, woven textures, brass, black accents, creamy whites, and deeper earthy colors.
Let’s take a closer look at Sherwin Williams Studio Taupe and see if it’s the right paint color for your home.

Light Reflectance Value
34
Light Reflective Value is the measurement of how much light a color bounces around. This is on a scale of 0 to 100 with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white.
With an LRV of 34, Studio Taupe is a medium-depth paint color. It has enough body to show up well on the wall, but it still feels livable in the right room.
I would not call it light and airy, but I would not call it too dark either. It lands in that grounded, cozy range that can make a room feel pulled together.

Undertones
Studio Taupe is a taupe color with warm yellow and orange undertones.
In a south-facing room with lots of sunlight, you’ll notice the warm, cozy undertones really come through.
In a north-facing room with cooler light, it might lean a little more neutral, maybe even a hint of gray at times.
This is why I always recommend testing paint colors on your own walls. Look at your swatch in the morning, afternoon, evening, and under your lamps before you commit.

FAQs
Here are some common frequently asked questions about Studio Taupe.
What's the difference: SW Tony Taupe vs Studio Taupe?
These are similar colors with very similar names, so I can see why they get compared so often.
Tony Taupe is a bit lighter, more saturated, and more orange / gray. Studio Taupe is slightly darker, more muted, and more yellow.
They are close enough that I would definitely swatch them side by side. Once you see them in your own lighting, you’ll have a much better feel for which one suits your space.

What's the difference: SW Studio Taupe vs Poised Taupe?
Studio Taupe is noticeably lighter and warmer than Poised Taupe. Poised Taupe is darker and has more gray / violet to it.
One of the biggest differences is the color family. Studio Taupe is in the yellow color family, and Poised Taupe is in the purple color family.
That may sound like a small detail, but it can make a big difference on your walls.

What's the difference: SW Studio Taupe vs Behr Studio Taupe?
Same name, but they are not the same paint color!
Sherwin Williams Studio Taupe is slightly lighter and more yellow. Behr Studio Taupe is a bit darker, grayer, and more muted.
If you like warmer taupes, you may prefer Sherwin Williams Studio Taupe. If you want something a little quieter and more gray, Behr Studio Taupe might be closer to what you have in mind.
I would still swatch them side by side. With colors this close in name, seeing the actual samples in your home is the best way to avoid surprises.

Is Sherwin Williams Studio Taupe more gray or more brown?
Taupe can be a tricky color, which is exactly why swatching matters so much.
Sherwin Williams Studio Taupe is in the yellow color family, so it leans more brown than gray. It has warm yellow and orange undertones that give it a cozy, grounded look.
In cooler lighting, you may notice it looking a bit more neutral or slightly grayed down. I’d test it on a few different walls so you can see how it shifts through the day.
What's the difference: SW Studio Taupe vs Accessible Beige?
Studio Taupe and Accessible Beige are both warm neutrals, but they do not feel the same once they are on the wall.
Studio Taupe is darker, warmer, and more yellow. Accessible Beige is lighter, softer, and more gray.
Accessible Beige is a very popular paint color, but popularity does not always mean it is the right fit for your home. I’d swatch both and look at them in morning, afternoon, and evening light before choosing.

Are taupe walls out of style?
No, taupe walls are not out of style. In fact, taupe feels like a really good choice right now as more people move away from cool grays and back toward warmer neutrals.
Taupe gives you warmth, depth, and versatility without feeling too beige or too dark. It can work with traditional, modern, organic, farmhouse, and transitional spaces.
