Sherwin Williams Alexandrite: Complete Color Review

Published: Nov 25, 2025 · Modified: Feb 10, 2026 by Meg · This post may contain affiliate links ·

Need the perfect green paint color for your space? I review Sherwin Williams Alexandrite to see if it's the one for your home.

Green is one of those colors I keep coming back to. Green paint colors work almost anywhere and somehow manages to feel both fresh and calming at the same time.

Greens have a way of bringing the outdoors in, and they can be bold or subtle, earthy or polished, depending on the shade you choose.

I especially love jewel toned greens. They feel rich and confident and add instant depth to a room. There's also something a little luxurious about them.

Another bonus is how easy greens are to live with. They pair beautifully with warm neutrals, crisp whites, and even brighter colors if you love a bit of contrast.

If you've been searching for a bold, jewel toned green that still feels livable, Sherwin Williams Alexandrite is a great option. Let's take a closer look.

Alexandrite is a rich, jewel toned green that instantly adds depth and personality.

    Color Family

Alexandrite is in the green family.

Light Reflectance Value measures how much light a paint color reflects. It's on a scale from 0 to 100.

With an LRV of 22, Alexandrite is a deeper color that holds onto its richness. Like most greens, it can shift a bit depending on lighting. But it never feels washed out.

    Undertones

Alexandrite is a vibrant green with blue and gray undertones.

In south-facing rooms with lots of natural light, Alexandrite looks brighter and more lively. It leans into its green side.

In darker spaces, such as north-facing rooms, Alexandrite feels deeper and moodier. Those blue gray undertones become more noticeable.

Since light has such a great effect on the feel of the color, I always say you should swatch them in your space before committing.

    Best Uses

Alexandrite is bold enough to make a statement. But it can also feel surprisingly calm when you pair it with earthy or neutral tones.

Here are some of my favorite ways to use it:

    • On the walls of a cozy bedroom, living room, or den (you can even paint the trim and molding for a polished look)
    • Creating a focal point, such as a fireplace
    • Built-ins
    • Kitchen cabinets
    • Interior or exterior doors
    • Home exterior
    • Shutters
    • Accent wall
    • Furniture
