Benjamin Moore Mountain Peak White vs Swiss Coffee: Compare

Published: Nov 11, 2024 · Modified: Sep 23, 2024 by Meg · This post may contain affiliate links ·

Trying to find the perfect white paint color for your home? You’re in the right place! Today, we’re comparing two popular choices: Mountain Peak White vs Swiss Coffee. Let’s see which one might be the best fit for your space.

White paint colors are a classic for a reason. They instantly brighten up a room, and you have the flexibility to pair them with just about any accent color.

I love warm whites or off-whites because they can be a neutral, inviting backdrop without feeling too harsh or clinical.

So today I'm looking at two popular shades of warm white paint – Benjamin Moore Mountain Peak White and Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.

Let's see which one is your perfect match!

Mountain Peak White vs Swiss Coffee

Mountain Peak White and Swiss Coffee have a lot in common, but the details are where they really differ.

One thing to note—Swiss Coffee has gained serious popularity, partly thanks to Shea McGee from Studio McGee and her Netflix show.

What’s Similar Between Mountain Peak White and Swiss Coffee?

Both Mountain Peak White and Swiss Coffee are warm whites that create a cozy, inviting feel without coming across as too stark or cold.

They’re both versatile enough to use throughout your entire home if you’re looking for a neutral, comforting backdrop.

What’s Different Between Mountain Peak White and Swiss Coffee?

Mountain Peak White is a bit lighter and brighter compared to Swiss Coffee. It’s closer to a true white, even though it has a creamy feel, while Swiss Coffee is more of an off-white.

Swiss Coffee also leans a touch warmer than Mountain Peak White, adding an extra bit of warmth to your space.

    Light Reflectance Value (LRV)

Light Reflectance Value (LRV) measures how much light a color reflects, on a scale from 0 (pure black) to 100 (pure white).

Mountain Peak White is brighter and reflects more light than Swiss Coffee, with an LRV of 89 compared to 82.

In general, colors with an LRV of 72-82 are considered off-white, while anything above 82 falls into the true white category.

This puts Mountain Peak White in the true white range, while Swiss Coffee is one of the lightest off-whites out there.

    Undertones

Mountain Peak White has soft yellow undertones, giving it a creamy off-white or light cream appearance.

In south-facing rooms with plenty of natural light, it leans warmer and takes on a rich, light cream vibe. But in darker spaces, it feels cooler, showing more of its neutral off-white side.

Swiss Coffee, on the other hand, brings a mix of warm yellow and red undertones. In bright rooms, it often reads as white, but in low-light spaces, it feels creamier.

One thing to keep in mind—Swiss Coffee can sometimes show a slight green undertone, especially in cool lighting like north-facing rooms or under LED lights.

I’ve seen these undertones shift firsthand depending on the room and lighting, so it’s always a good idea to test the colors in your space before making a final decision.

How Do You Choose Between Mountain Peak White vs Swiss Coffee?

These are both great paint color options! When deciding between Mountain Peak White and Swiss Coffee, it may actually be more about what to stay away from:

If your room gets tons of natural light, especially from the south, you might want to steer clear of Mountain Peak White.

It can feel very warm and creamy in those bright spaces, which might be too much if you’re aiming for a more neutral look.

On the flip side, if your room is darker or gets north-facing lighting, I’d avoid Swiss Coffee.

It can sometimes show a subtle green undertone in low light, which could change the overall feel of the room.
