Benjamin Moore Simply White vs White Dove

Published: Dec 11, 2023 · Modified: Dec 29, 2023 by Meg · This post may contain affiliate links ·

Looking for the perfect white paint color for your home? Let's compare Simply White vs White Dove to see if one might be perfect for your space!

White paint colors are extremely popular. They provide a neutral backdrop for a variety of decor styles, and they work as whole house paint colors.

Warm whites are popular because they provide that neutral look without feeling too crisp or too stark.

It's important to look at undertones so you can be sure you're not going too warm or not warm enough.

Today I want to compare two super popular shades of warm white paint – Simply White and White Dove.

Let's talk about the difference between these two popular shades.

    Simply White vs White Dove

Simply White and White Dove are both very popular white paint colors!

The two have a lot in common, as they're both warm whites, but there are some differences to consider when deciding between the two.

What is similar about Simply White vs White Dove?

Simply White and White Dove are two popular white paint colors by Benjamin Moore.

Both are considered true white paint colors based on their LRV numbers.

Both colors are slightly warm with yellow undertones, although White Dove's undertones are stronger. Neither is a stark white.

Simply White and White Dove both work well as wall, trim and ceiling colors. Both work as whole-house paint colors.

What is different about Simply White vs White Dove?

Simply White is lighter than White Dove, with an LRV of 90 vs 83. This means Simply White will reflect more light back into a room.

When the two colors are compared right next to each other, Simply White is brighter and cleaner, whereas White Dove can look softer or dingy.

While both colors feature warm yellow undertones, White Dove also has slightly green undertones.

    Light Reflectance Value

Light Reflective Value is the measurement of how much light a color bounces around.

This is on a scale of 0 to 100 with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white.

Simply White is lighter and brighter, with an LRV of 90. White Dove is a bit darker and creamier.

With an LRV of 83, it's closer to the off-white category of paint colors.

Simply White will reflect more light back into a room, whereas White Dove will absorb a bit more light.

    Undertones

Both Simply White and White Dove feature warm yellow undertones. However, the yellow undertones are a bit stronger in White Dove.

White Dove also features slight green undertones.

Both colors will look warmer, with those yellow undertones showing more, in south-facing rooms with lots of natural light.

Simply White and White Dove will both look more like true whites in north-facing rooms without much natural light.

It's very important to swatch colors on your wall to make sure they look good – day and night – in your actual space before committing.

How do I decide between these two colors?

Simply White and White Dove are both great white paint colors. They're popular for a reason - they're pretty!

If you're looking for more of a white, go with Simply White.

For example, if you have a south-facing room where you don't want to go too warm, Simply White is a great choice.

If you want a bit more warmth, go with White Dove.

For example, if you have a north-facing room that you don't want to feel too cool, White Dove works great.

Think about how you want your room to feel. Simply White will be a bit brighter and lighter, and White Dove will be a bit creamier and cozier.
