Looking for the perfect black paint color for your home? Let's compare Limousine Leather vs Black to see if one might be perfect for your space!
Black paint colors are everywhere right now, and for good reason!
They’re moody, dramatic, bold, and surprisingly fun. If you’re looking to make a statement—whether it’s big or small—black paint is a fantastic choice.
You could go bold with a piece of black furniture to anchor a room, or take it to the next level by painting an entire space, like a powder room (trim and all!), for a dramatic, moody vibe.
But before you start, you’ve got to find the right black paint color.
Today, I’m comparing two super popular options: Limousine Leather and Black.
Let’s break down the differences so you can decide which one’s right for you!

What is similar about Limousine Leather vs Black?
Limousine Leather and Black are both rich, dark black paint colors with minimal undertones.
- Both have low LRVs (Light Reflectance Value), meaning they’re equally dark and dramatic.
- Neither has strong undertones, making them versatile options for most spaces.
What is different about Limousine Leather vs Black?
The main difference lies in their subtle characteristics:
- Limousine Leather: Slightly darker and more neutral.
- Black: A touch lighter and slightly warmer.
Limousine Leather | Black | |
LRV | 4 | 5 |
RBG | R: 59 G: 60 B: 60 | R: 63 G: 63 B: 62 |
Undertones | very little undertone | very little undertone, slight yellow / brown |
Light Reflectance Value
Light Reflective Value is the measurement of how much light a color bounces around. This is on a scale of 0 to 100 with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white.
Limousine Leather and Black are both very dark paint colors. With an LRV of 4, Limousine Leather is a bit darker than Black, which has an LRV of 5.

Undertones
Both Limousine Leather and Black have minimal undertones. Between the two, Black is slightly warmer, and Limousine Leather is slightly more neutral.
Due to its lack of undertones and low LRV, Limousine Leather appears as a true, deep black in most spaces.
The same can be said of Black, although it varies slightly more than Limousine Leather does. It will lean warmer in brightly lit spaces (such as south-facing rooms) and a bit cooler / more neutral in darker, north-facing rooms.
It's very important to swatch colors on your wall to make sure they look good – day and night – in your actual space before committing.

How do I decide between these two colors?
If you’re torn, here’s my advice:
- If you want a pure, classic black that doesn’t change much in different lighting, go with Limousine Leather.
- If you’d prefer a slightly warmer black with a softer edge, go with Black—especially for bright, sunny rooms.
At the end of the day, they’re so close that you’ll probably be happy with either.
Swatch them both and see how they look in your space. It’s the best way to find your perfect black!
