These are both neutral, mid toned, greige paint colors. They are each super popular options and work well in similar homes because they have very similar undertones and overall aesthetic.

What is different about Gossamer Veil vs Drift of Mist?

While these colors are similar, they are not identical. They have differences in darkness (color depth) and slightly in undertones.

LRV – color depth

Gossamer Veil is darker than Drift of Mist. A lower LRV means that the color is darker or deeper. With a LRV of 62, Gossamer Veil is a good shade darker than Drift of Mist, with an LRV of 69.

They are both mid-toned, meaning not too light and not too dark. If your room is very bright and sunny, or you are looking at the exterior of the house, colors will be more washed out and look lighter. Keep that in mind!

Undertones	Gossamer Veil has slight green – and sometimes purple – undertones. However, they are fairly light. This is considered a great neutral warm greige.	Drift of Mist is a warm, neutral toned light greige color. But, beware – it can read a bit green in certain light. Often, when cool north-facing light mixes with this golden color, it can go green.

Undertones

Gossamer Veil and Drift of Mist both have warm green undertones. However, side by side, you can see that Drift of Mist has a bit more purple to it than Gossamer Veil.

This purple comes out more in cool lighting, while the green/warmth shows more in warm lighting situations.

Also consider your accent colors. If you decorate with a lot of green or purple – that will bring out those undertones.

How do I decide between these two colors?

Gossamer Veil has more depth to it – is slightly darker – and is slightly warmer than Drift of Mist. If you have a very bright room but want it to have a bit of color to it, Gossamer Veil is less likely to get washed out compared to Drift of Mist.

Drift of Mist also has a lot of purple to it. If your room is north facing or has cool light, it could look purple on the walls.
