Looking for the perfect warm gray paint color? Let's compare Sherwin Williams City Loft vs Agreeable Gray to see which might be perfect for your home!

There are so many options when picking a paint color for your home, it can be super overwhelming.

Even if you narrow the color down, there are tons of shades within each color family.

Warm grays (AKA greiges) are a super popular wall color because they are neutral, cozy, and easy to decorate with.

Two of the most popular colors in this category are Sherwin Williams City Loft and Agreeable Gray.

These colors are both on the mid to light end, but darker than an off-white. They are solidly in the "light gray" category.

They also both have warm undertones, meaning they will feel cozy and maybe a touch golden.

    Light Reflectance Value

Light Reflective Value is the measurement of how much light a color bounces around. This is on a scale of 0 to 100 with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white.

With an LRV of 70, City Loft is considerably lighter than Agreeable Gray, with an LRV of 60.

This means that City Loft will feel much lighter in brighter. If your room is very light - or you are even picking colors for an exterior - the colors will be more washed out.

In a super bright space, City Loft can almost feel off white, while Agreeable Gray is always going to have a bit more depth to it.

    Undertones

While these colors are both warm toned, they have different undertones that get them there. Looking at the colors side by side makes this pretty clear.

City Loft has a bit more beige and red to it - it can almost read as a touch pink.

On the other hand, Agreeable Gray is more neutral, the warmth is more subtle. It can occasionally read as a touch green.

How do I decide between these two colors?

First, decide if you want a very light gray or something with a bit more depth to it. City Loft is significantly lighter compared to Agreeable Gray.

Then, look at the undertones. You will want to make sure that the either pink or green undertones don't clash with any wood tones or other fixtures in your space.

It's very important to swatch colors on your wall to make sure they look good – day and night – in your actual space before committing.
